ALTAMONT, Utah – The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting at a ranch in Altamont, Utah.

Duchesne County deputies were called to the LC Ranch near 14500 W. and 4000 N. at about 8:45 a.m.

Deputies said a 61-year-old Rocky Mecham, of Mountain Home, Utah, was killed in what appears to be an accidental shooting on the ranch’s private shooting range.

Authorities said two men were practicing long-range shooting while Mecham was down range marking targets for them.

There was a miscommunication and one of the target shooters, 64-year-old Greg Timothy of Altamont, hit and killed Mecham down range.
