MIDVALE, Utah – A fugitive who parked a stolen car at a grocery store in Midvale found police waiting for him when he came back outside, and after he tried to flee, an officer deployed a Taser to take the man into custody.

According to Lt. John Barker of the Unified Police Department, officers were after 30-year-old Alex Boss, a fugitive with some gang associations, and they had him boxed in when he exited a grocery store in the area of 950 West Fort Union Boulevard late Friday night.

Boss attempted to flee on foot, and an officer deployed a Taser on the man, who went to the ground. Police said Boss suffered an injury to his forehead that will require stitches.  Police said he would be taken to jail after receiving medical care.

Police said they wanted to avoid property damage and a vehicle pursuit, which is why they waited to approach the man until he was coming out of the store and after they had boxed him in.

A pregnant woman who was with Boss was released at the scene
