OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University played host to the Utah state wrestling championships this weekend, and, for many, it came down to a battle.

The 1A title was expected to go to Altamont, but Duchesne rallied with 5 victories, resulting in a 3.5-point difference, and a trophy.

In 2A, the 7-time state champs Delta were de-crowned by South Summit. Although they only secured two individual titles, the Wildcats’ depth got them the win.

But it was in 3A where history was made. Bear River earned the trophy for the first time since 1966. 285-pound Josh Madsen sealed the deal in a match that went into overtime. He said the fans helped him keep fighting.

138 lb champion: Cooper Skinner (Bear River)
145 lb champion: Kaygen Canfield (Bear River)
285 lb champion: Josh Madsen (Bear River)
