Native American basketball star leads Utah class 4A boys in scoring

SALT LAKE CITY -- Spotted Elk may not be a name you hear every day, but it is over at East High School.

Dacian Spotted Elk is a senior for the Leopards basketball team who not only leads the team in scoring at 23.5 points a game, but also leads all of class 4A.

Spotted Elk grew up on an Indian reservation just outside Blanding.

His parents sent him to Salt Lake City at the age of 6 to pursue an education and basketball, but he has never forgotten his rich heritage, which includes a great great grandfather who survived a major historical event in the 1860s.
