Coronary artery disease and peripheral artery disease (PAD) can be extremely serious and potentially deadly health problems many men and women face in the U.S. However, IASIS Healthcare Utah offers heart function screenings that can give you and your doctor a better look at your overall health.

Coronary artery disease refers to the narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries from the buildup of cholesterol and plaques. This buildup restricts blood flow to the heart. If the blood supply to the heart is cut off, a heart attack can occur.

Symptoms of coronary artery disease

  • Pain, discomfort, heaviness in chest
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart palpitations
  • Faster heartbeat
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Sweating

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is the narrowing of peripheral arteries, which results in reduced blood flow to the limbs. PAD can also be a sign of atherosclecrosis, a widespread accumulation of fatty deposits in the arteries. Although some people may not experience any symptoms with this disease, others can experience debilitating pain.

Symptoms of peripheral artery disease

  • Painful cramping in hip, thigh, or calf muscles after walking or climbing stairs
  • Numbness or weakness in legs
  • Sores on feet or legs that won’t heal
  • Change in color of legs
  • Hair loss on feet and legs
  • Slower toenail growth
  • Weak pulse in legs or feet
IASIS Utah is offering a $30 leg screening for peripheral artery disease and $69 HeartView Scan to detect heart disease before symptoms occur.
