LAS VEGAS — A pair of brothers who work for a masonry company in Clearfield traveled to Las Vegas this week, where they won a new truck and $15,000 in cash and other prizes by taking first place in the 2016 Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 World Championship.

Scott Tuttle, 38, and his brother, Brian Tuttle, both work for Quik Trowell Masonry in Clearfield, and Scott won the championship while his brother served as mason tender at the competition, which was held in concert with the World of Concrete trade show Wednesday.

According to a press release from event organizers, Scott Tuttle laid 775 bricks to win first place. Prizes included a Ford F-250 4X4 truck, a $5,000 check and several thousand dollars worth of tools and other gear. The Tuttles competed against 23 world-class bricklayers.

Scott worked hard to prepare, according to the press release.

“Yes, I built five practice walls before the event,” he stated in the press release. “I’d put them up then I’d take them back down and put them back up again, so I was ready.”

The event is the biggest masonry competition of its kind anywhere in the world, according to the press release.
