Kanab authorities investigate fatal shop fire

KANAB, Utah — Fire and police authorities are investigating a fatal blaze in Kanab Friday night.

Kanab City Fire was called to a structure fire at a shop, 510 N. 100 West, at about 10:33 p.m. When they arrived on scene the building was fully engulfed and there were reports of a person inside, Kanab Fire Chief Joseph Decker wrote on Facebook.

Due to the progression of the fire, Decker wrote, firefighters were unable to perform any search until the fire was contained.

“After containment, emergency personnel located human remains in the structure,” according to the Facebook post.

The remains were turned over to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner for identification.

Kanab Fire is working with Kanab police and the Utah State Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate to the blaze. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
