Ammon Bundy, 40, is leading the group of protestors in Oregon that took over a federal refuge center. He is the son of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, 67, who engaged in a protracted battled with the Federal Bureau of Land Management over grazing rights for his cattle.

(CNN) — Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has had enough.

Brown publicly vented her frustration Wednesday with the armed group of protesters who’ve taken over a federal wildlife refuge in Harney County, in the southeastern corner of her state. But she’s also fed up with federal officials’ response to the occupation and urged them to put an end to it.

“The residents of Harney County have been overlooked and underserved by federal officials’ response thus far,” Brown said during a news conference. “This spectacle of lawlessness must end. And until Harney County is free of it I will not stop insisting that federal officials enforce the law.”

Rising costs

And keeping an eye on the occupiers apparently isn’t cheap. The price tag on the nearly three-week-old occupation is costing Oregon about $100,000 a week, Brown said. She wants reimbursement from the federal government for those mounting costs.

Kristen Grainger, Brown’s director of communications, said costs related to the occupation included everything from bringing in extra law enforcement to food.

“In order to maintain public safety … multiple local law enforcement entities from around the state, as well as Oregon State Police Troopers, are coordinating with the Harney County sheriff to provide additional officers,” Grainger said in the statement. “The estimate of $100,000 a week represents the costs of labor, including overtime, travel reimbursement, lodging and meals for the officers.”

It started with a march

The group of protesters, lead by Ammon Bundy, has occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge since January 2 to protest federal land policies.

Bundy, son of controversial Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, and others started out protesting the sentencing of Dwight Hammond and his son Steven, two ranchers convicted of arson on federal lands in Oregon.

But a march supporting the Hammonds led to the armed occupation of the refuge, with occupiers decrying what they call government overreach when it comes to federal lands.

impound their vehicles, weapons, heavy equipment, and put them on the no-fly list,…..hell,…put them on terrorists watch list,……make damn sure these idiots NEVER get a weapon again

    • Steve

You want all that done without due process? Because that is exactly what the no-fly list is, and why Congress wouldn’t allow that list to be used to deny 2nd amendment rights.

The comments here are disheartening – and dangerous. I know the people in the refuge. We have had eye witness reports on our radio show for the past two weeks. Fox News has a responsibility to report the TRUTH and not to black out what’s really happening. I know the Bundy’s and Finicums to be good, law abiding citizens. They are at the refuge not to incite violence, but to help the ranchers and land owners who have unsuccessfully sought redress by any other means to sort through the years of abuse, neglect and intimidation to force them off the land they own. They have caught the FBI as agent provocateurs and imposters, posing as heavily armed militiamen who were busted in their covert mission to incite an altercation. The Bundy’s and Finicum’s have spent the past two weeks working with the citizens and have repaired the facility that was in disarray. They have found Indian artifacts that have been neglected and sitting in mice and rat droppings for 35 years. They have discovered the forests full of DEAD trees that would take 7-10 years to log out so that the forests can have some regrowth and prevent the horrendous forest fires we in Utah and everywhere in the West have been experiencing. Those fires destroy in just a few days more trees than could be logged in a decade. So much for the “fine” work of the bureaucrats at the BLM and the EPA. From some of the comments here, it appears that the domestic terrorists are on this very page. In fact, we also know that most of you are PAID trollers with IP addresses from NYC and working for George Soros. Honestly, Fox 13, you have a responsibility to report – at the very LEAST – fair and balanced, but more than that – THE TRUTH. And above all, stop contributing to inciting violence, which we – and THEY – do not want. Listen to http://www.k-talk.com, M-F, 10-Noon Mountain time, AM 630 SLC. #LLUradio

It is the feds that caused this trying to put these people back in jail when the charge was trumped up in the first place and they had already served there sentence. It is time to tell the feds to get off our backs and let us live in freedom like we are supposed to !!!!!!!

Eventually they will get tired of receiving dildos and “glitter bombs” in the mail by people on the internet.

If these people where environmentalists blocking a road to protest a timber sale what would Kate brown say

    • cb

Wut? Are you joking? If they were environmentalists blocking a road to protest timber sale, they would have been arrested and charged with terrorism on day one. The only reason these guys are still there is because they have guns. Environmental protestors are almost always non-violent, peaceful people.

You know why this will end up badly. Because there is no honesty left in our government and the people that support it are just as bad. One can make a case against what the Bundy group is doing without having to tell a lie. But since that would be a weak case, all they do is tell big lies. When one side of a conflict is so utterly dishonest, there is no hope for a resolution.

$100,000 a week to have a bunch of people stand around and do nothing. What do they think is going to happen? All of a sudden these men are going to do what? How about the government actually listens to the non-violent protesters and do something positive for a change. Unfortunately the BLM is lawless and stealing land. That’s what this is all about.

    • Eyeball Kid

They aren’t “peaceful”, Troy. They’re carrying weapons that they pledge to use if confronted by LEOs. If you don’t know that, you haven’t been paying attention. They are doing nothing resembling “due process”. They aren’t willing to work with the political representatives. They want their direct actions to change federal law by proclamation. IOW, what they want to do is contrary to the very Constitution with which they seem to be so enamored. Further, Ammon Bundy cannot understand due process because he believes that he is obeying a direct command from God to occupy the Refuge. He’s irrational and has no ability to listen to a reasonable point of view. So we have a delusional person who has auditory hallucinations leading a band of violent miscreants whose goal is to change federal law by their own decree. And we’re all supposed to say, “Well, okay. Take the federal land, indirectly owned by 330 MILLION people, and give it to 20 gun-toting cowboys, only TWO of whom own cattle, and freely distribute the land to “ranchers” (Bundy-talk for the Koch Brothers and other industrialists who will REALLY rape the land. If the land opens up for privatization, Bundy’s rancher buddies will be the last in line, guaranteed.) for their own use.” If you think that’s a good plan, I have some magic sparkles in this microfiber bag right next to me that will make women fall all over you. Ten thousand dollars and it’s yours.

WHAT ABOUT THE TWO FBI AGENTS DRESSED AS MILITIA MEN THAT WERE TERRORIZING THE CITIZENS UNDER DIRECT ORDER FROM OBAMA THAT ALONE IS A HATE CRIME AS WELL AS CONSPIRACY -ASSAULT AND THE JUDGE THAT KNEW ABOUT THIS PLOT AND LET HIS CITIZENS SUFFER AT THE HANDS OF DIRTY COPS DO YOU THINK THIS IS THE KIND OF FAIR AND IMPARTIAL JUDGE YOU WANT AT YOUR TRIAL? YOUR A FOOL SO IF YOU CANT ENGAGE IN AN INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION KEEP YOUR DICK SUCKER SHUT!!!

      • Troll_Herd

        @WILLIAM KYLE JENNINGS
“YOUR A FOOL SO IF YOU CANT ENGAGE IN AN INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION KEEP YOUR DICK SUCKER SHUT!!!”
WILLIAM KYLE JENNINGS you are a true hypocrite

The ignorance here is just amazing, Blm has been stealing land and forcing ranchers off for 30 yrs and you think the patriots are the problem. News flash its not just happening in Or. Before making your biased uneducated comments you need to do some reading and don’t get it from the Orgonian.

  • Troll_Herd

To all the “Ya’ll Qaeda” supporters, peaceful protesters don’t carry guns and threaten violence. Hang them ALL for treason!

    • Calvin

Hang them for treason? Nah. Don’t be a drama queen. All they are guilty of is trespassing on federal property at this point. No one has even tried to arrest them. Can’t be guilty of resisting arrest when no one has tried to arrest you. It’s also it not illegal to open carry in Oregon if they have not been charged with any crimes yet. Furthermore, how hypocritical would it be if the feds shut down this ‘protest’ (in reality just a simple trespass) yet let the violent riots of the last few years go largely unchecked (occupy movement in some cities was just a glorified riot, Ferguson, Baltimore etc etc). Feds have painted themselves into a corner and they know it. If they let one unlawful assembly go unpunished, they have to let all of them go unpunished. The problem they’ve created for themselves is they ‘mistook’ (meaning tolerated because it fit their agenda) the previous instances of unlawful assembly for ‘lawful protest’ and set a dangerous precedent. If you want to end this peacefully just set a perimeter, cut off deliveries, shut off water and power. They’ll give up. Once they do, arrest them and charge them all with armed trespass and be done with it. Defuse the entire thing. Treat it like the petty crime it is and they won’t get famous or hurt anyone in the process. I find it very telling however, that groups of people are now willing to take up arms against federal abuse of power (perceived or actual). It says more about the state of the country as a whole than it does about the ideas of a few guys with guns in Oregon. People are fed up and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Reading the comments tells me that a whole lot of you people are communists, you don’t give a crap about the constitution, you are traitors an should be exiled out of America, Go to Europe you traitor commies

  • Ralph Blinde

I say the corruption goes all the way up to the governor and beyond. Nice though they worry about cost now, but don’t worry about cost when they are stuffing their pockets. The Judge and sheriff are just small potatoes, true they should be mashed. we just have a long hill to climb to get to the real steak and baked potatoes. I don’t see much help coming from government sorry to say. we need the main stream media to start telling tho whole truth and Quit being just a paid mouthpiece
