A waiter in Kansas took to social media after discovering what looked like a generous $20 tip was not legal tender.

For 17-year-old Garret Wayman, the excitement quickly faded when he realized that, not only was the money fake, but it was actually a pre-printed religious message.

Wayman had just finished serving a table at the at the Mulvane "DK" in Kansas, when he spotted what looked like a large bill tucked under the ketchup.

Unfolded, however, Wayman noticed it was actually just a bible pamphlet recommending he seek "faith thru Jesus Christ."  The title of the message was:

The high school student aired his frustrations on social media and his story has now garnered national attention.

"He just left that," Wayman told Tech Insider. "I wanted to tell him that I only make $3 an hour and bust my a-- at my job to make way less than I deserve, but he was gone by the time I had the chance to."

Wayman, who says he doesn't even take weekends off as he works to pay off the $7,000 owed on his car, was excited because he had never seen a tip of that size left in the restaurant.

Many on twitter shared similar stories of being stiffed. Others calling it "un-Christian-like"  and simply illegal.

The customer who left the fake tip has yet to make him or herself public.

And that is your problem young man, you dont DESERVE ANYTHING! Nothing in this life is free and there is no law that requires you to tip anyone. Now I usually give a $5.00 tip because of the service. I get good service, then I tip. I get horrible service and you dont get squat. And with the attitude like yours, I would not have tipped your self centered “its all about me” arse either! And I would hope you dare to speak to me like you claimed to want to speak to the customer, as I would make sure that you were fired and then how are you going to pay for your car.

Grow up before you start posting your stupidity again. Harsh words maybe, but they are factual and with your attitude you will never be in any other job then one that has your name above your pocket.

Speaking of stupidity, your entire post. You’ve obviously never worked in the restaurant business because people who don’t tip period are the worst kind of people, let alone some religious nut job who leaves a pamphlet. This is a young kid trying to pay off a car loan, if $20 is a lot to him I’m betting he’s a hard/honest worker. I think you could do the growing up, Dan.

For people that live on Tips, $20.00 could be the difference between putting food on the table for your kids or starving. Really you give a 5.00 tip for a meal. The standard practice is 15 to 20% oh the ticket total, if you are only leaving 5.00 it sounds like you eat alone A LOT. Maybe that could be a clue to you, that being cheap with a tip is in poor taste

Your a retard. And a cheap ass…. And guess what? There is no “law” but you will be asked to not come back to that restaurant or establishment because its THEIR RULE that patrons tip the servers. This is a common decency law dumb ass, you may not like it but that’s how it is set up in America. You’re a right winged bafoon, and like someone mentioned earlier you probably eat alone, a lot! So keep it that way, and your biggoted comments to yourself. Cheers ;)

And Daniel is what is wrong in the world… he never felt like he deserved the money, he just shedding light that he was fooled. I worked at a resturaunt and received these before (usually accompanied by another tip) and it’s quite annoying. Your tip should be based on your bill. Not just $5! Servers don’t make enough and rely on tips.

Couldn’t they leave a big tip and be like. “pick up a bible sometime”? Or have a little slip envelope that looks like a bible and put the tip in that and when you open it, says ” opening the bible pays.” At least the guy got a tip. Instead being a Big D and stiffing them.

I worked in the service industry as a waitress for years and I depended a lot on tips. That being said all the comments about Christians here is totally uncalled for and inaccurate. Some of the best tips I received were from Christians and the worst were from Progressives. It’s VERY well known that certain types of Progressives and Democrat voters wont leave any tip at all, their culture doesn’t believe in it. In fact its so bad and well known that all of the African American waiters I worked with wouldn’t wait on or would fight to not have other blacks or obvious democrats sat in their section.

This is a typical mean spirited action by the servants of Satan!
Solution; abolish optional tipping by including a service fee in the price of the meal and force these low lifes
to pay in actual legal tender!

These have been around since I was a kid in the late 70’s this nothing new. Heck I got them when I was working in the food industry at 16-17 yrs old. Now stop crying & get back to work.
