OGDEN, Utah — Police in Ogden apprehended the suspect in a bank robbery Friday a short time after the alleged crime occurred, and the man is also allegedly behind a similar robbery at a credit union last month.

According to information from the Ogden Police Department, 58-year-old Peter Leonard Lyon allegedly entered Education First Credit Union, 1250 County Hills Drive, around 2 p.m. Friday and handed a teller a note indicating he had a gun and demanding cash.

Lyon fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, and witnesses reported he had left in a silver Toyota Prius. Police stated that minutes after the suspect fled, officers found the suspect vehicle in the 2200 block of Jackson Avenue, where police stopped the car and identified the driver as Lyon.

Police said the style of crime and vehicle description from Friday’s incident matched a robbery at Goldenwest Credit Union on December 19, 2015, and that Lyon had been identified as the suspect in that first crime. After the first robbery, police had described Lyon as being considered armed and dangerous.

Officers identified Lyon as that suspect and arrested him. Inside the vehicle, police found evidence linking Lyon to both robberies.

The man was booked into the Weber County Jail, where he faces felony charges in connection with the first robbery and is facing pending charges relating to the second robbery.
