SALT LAKE CITY — A federal judge in Idaho has sentenced a terrorism suspect with Utah ties to serve 25 years in prison.

During a hearing Thursday in Boise, Idaho, Fazliddin Kurbanov was sentenced to 25 years for conspiring and attempting to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization and possession of an unregistered destructive device. He was also fined $250,000 and will be deported at the end of his prison sentence, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Idaho said.

Kurbanov, 33, was convicted of trying to help the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan plot an attack on American soil. When he was arrested in 2013, FBI agents found bomb-making materials in his Boise apartment.

Kurbanov will next be brought to Utah where he will face a charge in federal court accusing him of teaching someone to make a bomb. Federal prosecutors have refused to say who that person is, but told FOX 13 that no one else has been charged in connection with the case.
