Orem PD poses toys and Elf on the Shelf ‘officers’ to illustrate police responses

OREM, Utah — From traffic stops on DUI drivers to officers assisting motorists in the snow, a police department in Utah has been using various dolls as well as a pair of officers resembling the popular Elf on the Shelf toys to re-create various calls they’ve responded to.

Things started when the Orem Police Department posted on December 16 that they had two new “officers” and needed the public’s help naming them. The two officers resemble Elf on the Shelf toys with police outfits.

Later that same day, Orem PD posted a list of recent arrests, and they recreated one scene using toys and the new “officers.” They stated: “Officer Newell and his K-9 partner ‘Marco’ assisted a deputy in searching a car. Marco found the mans Meth and Heroin (See pic below).”

A few days later, Orem PD posted the male is named Officer Glaze and the female is Officer Sprinkles.

In the days that have followed, Orem PD has posted several daily lists of arrests and other calls, and the two officers and other toys are used to illustrate the scenes.

A post made December 21 involved a man suspected of DUI, and that man’s vehicle was impounded.

Another recent post involved a burglary at a wig shop, and police took the opportunity to break out the toy wigs for the occasion.
