Winter storm warnings in effect; drivers urged to use caution

SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings for several counties across Utah, and drivers are urged to be prepared for winter driving conditions.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, winter storm warning are in effect for Box Elder, Cache, Carbon, Daggett, Davis, Duchesne, Emery, Grand, Juab, Millard, Morgan, Rich, Salt Lake, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Summit, Uintah, Utah, Wasatch and Weber counties. Click here to check the warnings for your area.

The Utah Department of Transportation issued the following traffic restrictions Wednesday morning:

  • US-40 Mayflower Summit – Chains required for semis
  • US-189 Provo Canyon – Chains required for semis
  • SR-92 Provo Canyon to Sundance – Chains/4×4  on all vehicles
  • Westbound I-80 / Parleys Canyon – Chains required for semis.
  • Eastbound I-80 / Parleys Canyon – Chains required for semis.

Drivers are urged to turn on their headlights and wipers, turn off cruise control, reduce speed and leave extra room in front of your vehicle to increase stopping distance.
