SALT LAKE CITY -- Delivering bikes to children in need was the goal of Utah’s "Free Bikes 4 Kidz" giveaway Saturday.

The group collects and refurbishes used bikes to donate to children, and the idea started back in 2008 in Minneapolis.

This is the first time the giveaway has come to Utah, and Free Bikes 4 Kidz Executive Director Joshua Sjorgren said the effort is the result of partnerships with a variety of groups.

“This year we're working with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, International Rescue Committee, Salvation Army, Sub for Santa," he said. "But, this year, more than 50 percent of our bikes are going to be going to refugee clients that are served by the International Rescue Committee."

Organizers received nearly 200 donated bikes from participants in Park City and the Salt Lake Valley.
