SYRACUSE, Utah — Police in Syracuse said a 16-year-old boy was hit and killed by a vehicle as he ran across a roadway Thursday night, and police said they believe the weather contributed to the crash.

Erin Behm, Syracuse Police Department, said the 16-year-old boy was running across Antelope Drive near 1100 West when he was hit by a car around 6:45 p.m.

The teen was rushed to a hospital, where he died due to injuries suffered in the crash.

Behm said the teen was not in a crosswalk when he was hit, and she said the heavy rainfall at the time may have made it difficult for the driver, a 42-year-old woman from Clearfield, to see the teen. A press release from police stated the teen was wearing dark clothing, and it notes there is not a crosswalk in the vicinity.

The airbags of the car deployed during the impact, and the driver suffered minor facial lacerations. The woman was cooperative with police and remained at the scene, according to the press release.

Police are investigating the crash, but they said at this point there are no indications that drugs, alcohol or distracted driving were factors.

Westbound Antelope Drive between 1000 West and 1250 West has been closed as police investigate.

The identities of those involved have not yet been released.
