MONTICELLO, Utah — A Monticello Police Department sergeant was placed on administrative leave Friday after he was arrested Thursday by the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a press release from Monticello City, Sgt. Cole Young was arrested after an altercation “related to some personal matters.”

Specific details about the events leading up to Young’s arrest were not immediately available.

The release states the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, but that Monticello will also be conducting an internal review. They state Sgt. Young has been cooperating with city staff during this process.

The San Juan County Attorney’s Office has filed charges of criminal trespass in a dwelling and assault, according to the press release.

The release states: “It’s never a happy time to see one of your officers arrested and placed on leave, but we will cooperate as a city with the appropriate investigators and processes to see that justice and fairness are served for all involved.”
