Gov. Herbert orders flags in Utah to remain lowered to honor San Bernardino victims

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Gary Herbert announced Friday the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the state of Utah will continue to fly at half-staff through December 7 to honor the victims in the mass shooting in San Bernardino, California.

Flags had already been lowered to half-staff throughout the state to honor the memory of Olene Walker, Utah’s 15th  governor and the first woman to hold that office in the Beehive State, who passed away Saturday.

The attack in San Bernardinois being investigated by the FBI as an act of terrorism, and the shooting left 14 dead and 21 wounded.

“Jeanette and I join with other Utahns in mourning the tragedy in San Bernardino,” Gov. Herbert stated. “We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence that has devastated families and friends across the nation.”

The press release states the flags will remain at half-staff through sunset on Monday, December 7. The flags will be lowered Monday night, which will coincide with Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
