SALT LAKE CITY – Police arrested a man after they said he led them on a high-speed chase and crashed into a car.

The Utah Highway Patrol said troopers saw a man firing a gun on the freeway just after midnight.

Authorities chased 30-year-old Michael King into Salt Lake City where they said he crashed into a CB Security car near 700 E. and 800 S.

Troopers said King abandoned the car and ran north but Salt Lake officers found him.

Officers said the man was uncooperative and implied he had a gun.

Authorities needed the help of a K9 officer to take the suspect into custody.

“When you start pretending that you have a firearm in your pocket, that’s a great way to get shot,” Salt Lake Police Lt. Dave Craycroft said. “Fortunately the officers were able to get a good enough view to see that he did not have a gun but he did have a knife and some pepper spray.”

King was taken to the hospital and authorities said he will likely face charges for fleeing and resisting arrest.

Troopers said King is also wanted in Wyoming for several aggravated assaults and running from police.

UHP is investigating the crash and Salt Lake City Police are handling King’s arrest.
