CARLSBAD, Calif. -- Two people are reportedly dead after a helicopter crash at an airport in California Wednesday, and video footage from the scene shows the aircraft spinning wildly on the ground before becoming engulfed in smoke.

FOX 5 in San Diego reports the helicopter appeared to make a normal landing before the rotors lost control and the aircraft began to spin. The aircraft ultimately caught on fire.

The crash occurred at McClellan-Palomar Airport, and FOX 5 reports both people inside the helicopter were killed in the crash.

The crash prompted a closure at the airport, and the cause is unclear at this time. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
