SOUTH SALT LAKE – Two people were taken into custody in connection with a bank robbery in South Salt Lake, and authorities said one of those suspects is a 13-year-old boy who allegedly served as the get-away driver in the crime.

The robbery occurred at a US Bank at 2714 South and 300 West around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say 21-year-old Jorge Hector Zamora walked in and demanded money, and the man fled after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash.

Zamora got into a vehicle, which police said was being driven by a 13-year-old boy. The pair fled, but Zamora and the juvenile were both arrested after officers located the suspect vehicle in the area of 3528 South Redwood Road.

“As luck would have it, we had a car in the area, got a glimpse of the suspect vehicle, followed it to an area in West Valley, on Redwood Road,” said Gary Keller of South Salt Lake Police. “…With the cooperation of West Valley police and our officers on scene, we were able to safely arrest these individuals.”

The boy, who has not been identified due to his age, is in juvenile detention.

Zamora was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

Both suspects were booked on a charge of robbery as a second-degree felony, though formal charges are still pending. The case is being screened by the District Attorney’s Office.
