ST. GEORGE, Utah – It’s been 10 weeks since 17-year-old Macin Smith disappeared from his home. Several searches of the area have been done, but nothing has turned up.

On Tuesday, the community took to social media to broaden the search.

More than 10,000 people, dubbed “Macin’s Army,” posted on Twitter and Facebook, an attempt to flood the Internet with Macin’s photo and information.

“Somebody has seen something, or somebody picked him up,” said Macin’s mom Tracey Smith. “Because kids don’t just vanish, they don’t.”

Macin went missing Sept. 1, and seemingly vanished into thin air. Smith said she heard her son getting ready for school that day, but he never came home.

Hundreds have scoured the neighborhood where the Smith’s live, and desert surrounding St George.

All of those efforts returned zero clues.

The family enlisted the help of Las Vegas based Red Rock Search and Rescue. Search coordinator David Cummings said Macin’s disappearance is an unusual case because of its lack of clues.

“There’s nothing,” Cummings said. “Not a footprint, there’s no signs of him on any video tapes anywhere in his neighborhood or at stores. Every sighting of someone like him is not him.”

Smith said the lack of clues is one of the hardest parts of the disappearance.

“We’re all in limbo,” Smith said. “We don’t know. We don’t have any of the answers.”

The family is offering a $1,000 reward for information that brings Macin home, but Smith said at this point they just want to know that he’s OK.

“I think if I knew either way I could accept the circumstances,” Smith said.
