SALT LAKE CITY -- Local hairdressers put their scissors to work for a good cause at a homeless shelter in downtown Salt Lake City Sunday.

Care-Cuts and the Legacy Initiative teamed up Sunday afternoon for a free haircut event outside of The Road Home, and nearly 200 homeless men, women, and children got a free trim.

Besides offering a free service, the goal of the event is to show those in need that there are people in the community who care.

“And it’s been very touching to see the changes in the countenance and their smile and their eyes, and not only the change in them, but also the change in our volunteers,” said Marco Diaz, Chairman of Care-Cuts.

Free coats, hats, gloves and socks were also available to help people prepare for winter. Event coordinators hope to have similar events at least twice a year.
