SALT LAKE CITY — A bicyclist is in serious condition after he was hit by a semi-trailer in Salt Lake City Thursday morning, and police said this may either be a hit and run crash or a situation where the driver didn’t realize they had hit someone and kept driving.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. near 300 North and 400 West, and police said a red semi-trailer with a flatbed was passing through the intersection when the vehicle struck the cyclist.

Det. Cody Lougy, Salt Lake City Police Department, said they are now looking for any information on that vehicle or the driver.

“This may be a hit and run, or this may be an incident where the semi driver didn’t even realize he hit somebody, those trucks are huge, so he may have struck that individual and not even realized it,” Lougy said.

The cyclist, a 25-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact SLC PD at 801-799-3000.
