SALT LAKE CITY – Between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ women’s session of General Conference, Salt Lake Comic Con, and Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Extreme, there was a record high number of patrons riding the Utah Transit Authority’s rail system in the Salt Lake Valley last week.

Between September 20 and September 26, the number of boardings is estimated at 567,892, according to UTA, which sets an all-time record for the system.

Anticipating large crowds, UTA had added extra cars and also increased the frequency of service to meet the demand.

And, with the other sessions of the LDS Church’s semi-annual General Conference scheduled for this weekend, UTA is expecting another busy few days.

“Because we set this record and we’ve set records in the past, on weekends when there are big events, for this coming conference weekend we’ve decided to add extra trains, we’ve decided to increase the frequency of those trains, and also make them longer so there’s a bigger capacity, ” UTA Spokesman Remi Barron said.

UTA states ridership on the rail system has been increasing in recent months, and they stated that during the summer of 2015 they saw more overall ridership when compared to summer of 2014.
