Police seek suspect after man shot in stomach at party in Weber County

WEBER COUNTY, Utah — Police in Weber County are searching for the suspect in a shooting that occurred at a party in Weber County Sunday morning, and a victim who was shot in the stomach is expected to survive.

According to a press release from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1 a.m. Sunday to the area of 3700 North and 3900 West in Plain City.

Police stated they found a 20-year-old male who had been shot in the stomach while attending a party. Authorities believe there were numerous people present at the home when the suspect and victim got into an argument.

After the two men went outside, one the men reportedly produced a handgun and shot the other man in the stomach. The suspect fled the scene.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, and while his exact condition is unclear the release states, “He is expected to survive.”

Detectives are in the process of interviewing witnesses, but they said at this point they believe the suspect and victim knew each other, “and there is some suspicion the shooting was gang-related.”

Authorities are not releasing the identity of the suspect, due to the ongoing investigation and efforts to locate him.
