EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah - A 10-month-old baby has drowned at a home in Eagle Mountain Thursday, and officials investigating the death said the tub was empty and the water was off when the mother left the child to check on other siblings--but somehow the water got turned on.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff's Office, said emergency crews performed CPR on the child, "for about 45 minutes, until they determined she was beyond help."

He said baby Magnolia Anderson drowned in a bathtub at a home on Blue Sky Drive  just after noon.

"Mom had taken her to the bathtub to clean her up, she left for a moment to attend to her other children" Cannon said.

He added that when the mother left, the tub was empty and the water was off.

"Somehow the water got turned on, we don't know how," Cannon said.

Cannon said the mother called 911 immediately, and he said the drowning appears to be an accident but is still being investigated.

"This is a tragic circumstance that no family wants to encounter," Cannon said.
