SALT LAKE CITY — A man impersonating a police officer was detained with his own handcuffs during an attempt to burglarize a home Monday, police said Tuesday.

Salt Lake City police responded to a Salt Lake City home on a report of a possible fight. When officers arrived they found Reed Glenn Grover in handcuffs in the driveway.
The resident of the home told police Grover showed a police badge through the house window and said “police,” according to a probable cause statement from Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The statement reports Grover pushed his way into the rear entry door of the house and assaulted the resident.
The resident of the home used the handcuffs Grover was carrying to detain Grover until police arrived, the statement indicates.
Grover was booked on charges of burglary of a dwelling, a second-degree felony; violation of parole or probation, a third-degree felony; impersonating an officer, a class B misdemeanor; and assault, a class B misdemeanor.
