SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz guard Danté Exum suffered an ACL tear in a recent game, according to a news release issued Thursday afternoon.

Exum suffered the injury on August 4 while competing for the Australian National Team in a game against the Slovenian National Team in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

“First and foremost, our overriding concern is with Danté and his long-term health,” said Utah Jazz General Manager Dennis Lindsey in the news release. “We are continuing to work closely with our medical staff, Danté and his representation in order to reach an accurate diagnosis and recommended treatment so that we can provide him with the best possible care. We all know how hard he will work to make a full recovery and look forward to his return to play.”

An ACL tear is an injury of the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee. In Exum’s case, the ACL tear occurred in his left knee.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, basketball is one of the sports commonly linked to the ACL tears. People with ACL tears often require surgery and physical therapy as part of the recovery process.

Exum joined the Utah Jazz after he was selected in the 2014 NBA draft.
