SALT LAKE CITY -- Firefighters in Salt Lake City are getting some new equipment that could help them save more of our furry friends.

FOX 13 News reported on a story a few weeks ago, when Salt Lake firefighters rescued two cats from a burning house. Ryan Gwilliam with Invisible Fence, a company that builds the wired fences under your lawns, saw this story on the news and found out the local fire department did not have enough animal-sized oxygen masks for every fire engine.

So Gwilliam convinced his company to donate more masks for the firefighters to use, which paramedics said is a great benefit.

“Pets are a big part of people's lives, so to be able to provide a rescue for those animals and provide ongoing medical care is a big deal,” said SLC Paramedic Jared Schreiner.

Twenty backpacks, each containing three pet oxygen masks, were donated to the fire department. FOX 13 News' Danica Lawrence spoke with Gwilliam and local firefighters, see the video above for her report.
