OREM, Utah – Orem officers are warning residents about large family of “travelers” accused of taking advantage of people in Orem.

Officers said the family members, or “gypsies” as they call themselves, are approaching people in parking lots at malls and shopping centers and offering to fix dents in their cars.

The issue is, officers said it doesn’t seem to matter if residents agree or not.

Authorities said the family will “fix” the dents anyway and then demand the car owner pay up.

Officers said the family is usually still at the car when the victim returns and can be very aggressive towards them.

Orem authorities said most people end up handing over the cash.

Police said the group is traveling with about 20 people and they usually arrive in about four or five new trucks with temporary tags.

Authorities said the group has been known to “fix” the dents by placing tape over the dent and then painting it.
