SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Supreme Court has rejected efforts to launch a referendum that could halt prison relocation efforts.
In an order issued by the state’s top court on Friday, the justices blocked efforts by a group seeking to have a ballot referendum to keep the prison in Draper.
The Utah Supreme Court ruled Rep. Fred Cox, R-West Valley City, did not identify himself as a prospective sponsor of the referendum and therefore lacked any standing to contest a decision by Lt. Governor Spencer Cox that the group missed a deadline for their application.
