Police: Armed man surrenders after barricading himself in Logan doctor’s office

LOGAN, Utah – Authorities have a man in custody after a reported standoff Wednesday morning at a doctor’s office in Logan.

Officials said a man armed with a gun surrendered to authorities at about 10 a.m. and no one was injured.

Logan officers said they were called about an armed 59-year-old patient in the lobby of the doctor’s office who was distraught and threatening to harm himself at about 9:30 a.m.

The SWAT team was called in as well as Cache County deputies and Logan Police officers the an armed man barricaded himself in the doctor’s office at the Southwest Spine and Pain Center.

Roads are back open after the incident near 550 E . and 1400 N.

Police have not said what led to the standoff.

The name of the suspect has not been confirmed at this time.

Logan Police release this statement:

“At 0935 hours dispatch received a dispute call at a Doctor’s office at 550 E 1400 N in Logan Utah. It was reported a male was in their lobby and was distraught. One of the complainants heard him threaten himself and they also observed a handgun in his possession. The male never threatened anyone in the office nor did he point the weapon at anyone other than himself. The male was identified as a 59 year old patient of the office. Patrol officers arrived and were able to evacuate all the employees and surrounding businesses safely. Hostage Negotiators and Tactical officers from the Cache County Sheriff’s office and the Logan City Police Department responded. The scene was secured and negotiators were able to talk the man into putting his firearm down. The male was taken into custody and is currently receiving a medical evaluation. The investigation is ongoing. No one was injured in the incident.”
