PROVO, Utah - The BYU student who pleaded guilty to making meth at his university-approved apartment learned his fate Wednesday.

Bryce Cazier will spend 60 days in jail and then be on probation for three years; the prosecution asked for double that.

This comes after an incident last fall.

Emergency crews were called to a fire that Cazier originally said sparked while he was making soap.

However, earlier this year, Cazier pleaded guilty to making meth.

Cazier's attorney said his client has made great strides over the last several months; that he is now employed and enrolled at Salt Lake Community College.

However, prosecutors said a price had to be paid and a message needed to be sent about those caught making meth.

The judge agreed Cazier put many others in danger but that he had straightened up a bit and wanted to help continue the rehabilitation process.
