SALT LAKE CITY — No settlement has been reached in the lawsuit between the organizers of San Diego Comic-Con and Salt Lake Comic Con over the use of the words “comic con,” so it appears the next stop will be a hall of justice.

Specifically, a federal courthouse in San Diego.

After a status conference in California on Thursday, organizers of Salt Lake Comic Con told FOX 13 that no settlement had been reached. The next step will be for the judge to set a trial date, Salt Lake Comic Con organizer Bryan Brandenburg said.

“We are optimistic that the final resolution of this case will be positive for both Salt Lake Comic Con and our fans,” he told FOX 13.

Organizers of San Diego Comic-Con have filed a lawsuit against Salt Lake Comic Con, accusing the popular show of infringing on its trademarks. Salt Lake Comic Con denies it, noting there are numerous other comic conventions that use the words “comic con.”

No trial date has been scheduled, according to the federal court docket.
