PROVO, Utah — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed Wednesday that a number of sister missionaries at their Missionary Training Center have been relocated to other housing areas recently after a sister missionary was awoken by a bat in her room.

LDS Church officials released a brief statement regarding the incident and stated the missionaries in the building had been moved and that those who were staying in that specific room were given preventative treatments for rabies in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The full statement reads:

“Sister missionaries at the Provo MTC were recently moved into a building that had been vacant for some time. Following that move, one sister missionary reported being awakened by a bat in her room. In accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), appropriate preventative treatment for rabies is being given to those in that room. All sister missionaries in that building have been moved to other housing areas until it can be determined that it is safe for them to return.”

FOX 13 News reached out to LDS officials for specific details about the incident, including the number of missionaries who had to be relocated as well as other information, however they declined to comment beyond the statement quoted above.
