Family locked themselves in back room as suspect broke in and threatened them with a knife.

SALT LAKE CITY – Authorities are investigating after a Salt Lake City family said a suspect broke down their door and attacked them.

Officials said a grandmother and her five grandchildren were inside when a suspect in his 30s violently broke into their home near 460 S. and 1000 W. just before noon Tuesday.

Police said they believe the suspect may have been under the influence of drugs when he broke in and threatened the family with a knife.

According to officers, the family locked themselves in a back room and called 911.

The suspect fought with officers before they arrested him.

Police said the children’s parents arrived shortly after police.

Authorities said the family was not injured during the break in.

They say that handguns and ammuntion should be kept in separate locations. I’ve never understood the concept of an unloaded firearm. Too bad this family didn’t put the animal down.
