WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – A motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries Saturday night after he attempted to pass another vehicle by moving into the center lane but wound up clipping the car, which pushed him into oncoming traffic and resulted in a collision.

Lt. Dalan Taylor, West Valley City Police Department, said the crash occurred around 11:50 p.m. in the area of 4250 West 3100 South.

“We had a motorcyclist that was westbound on 3100 South, he was following behind a taxi,” Taylor said. “For some reason he decided to pass that taxi in the center lane. As he went by it, he clipped the side, caught the mirror of it—which knocked him into the eastbound travel lanes and he was struck by an eastbound vehicle.”

Taylor said the motorcyclist, identified as 23-year-old Bryan Nuno, was killed at the scene. Nuno was wearing a helmet and protective gear.

“He was [wearing protective gear] but, you know, in this case it just wasn’t going to do anything for him, because of the type of accident was,” Taylor said.

The crash remains under investigation, though Taylor said at this point there are no obvious signs of impairment and no charges have been filed.
