SOUTHERN UTAH -- A man has been booked into jail on charges that include negligent homicide Wednesday after a vehicle crash that left his girlfriend dead earlier this week.

According to information from the Washington County Sheriff's Office, 21-year-old Mark James Wyler of St. George has been booked on the following charges: driving on a suspended license from out of state, improper lane travel, negligent homicide, and driving under the influence. The information also lists an out-of-state warrant among the charges.

The charges stem from a fatal crash that occurred when a vehicle went off a cliff near Toquerville Falls Sunday night. Police stated Wyler called 911 Monday morning and reported he had woken up in the wrecked vehicle. Cierra Perez, 20, was riding in the vehicle, and Wyler reportedly told dispatchers Perez was thrown from the car and he believed she had died.

Emergency crews responded and confirmed Perez had died. Crews recovered her body from the bottom of a ravine. Wyler was taken to a hospital in serious condition Monday and booked into jail later in the week.
