SALT LAKE CITY — Grocery stores from all across Utah came together and donated about $85,000 worth of food to the Utah Food Bank Wednesday.

The 42 stores are all a part of Associated Retail Operations, which includes Macey’s, Dan’s Market, Dick’s Market, Lin’s Market and Fresh Market locations all over the state.

The stores just finished their annual “Season to Share Fundraiser” and collected the money from customer donations at check out lines.

The stores donated mostly kid-friendly foods: like peanut butter, mac and cheese, and tuna to help the one in five kids in Utah who struggle with hunger.

Sarah Petit, Associated Retail Operations, said she is glad to be able to extend a helping hand to parents in Utah and their children.

“As a parent, I can only imagine what those parents are going through and the thoughts in their mind that potentially their child could go to bed hungry, and I hope that we help them have an easier night’s rest knowing that we’re helping to supply the food pantries that help make meals possible for their children,” she said.

Officials with the Utah Food Bank said they often have a hard time getting kid-friendly food in large quantities, and they said this donation will make a difference in the lives of many children who need extra help with meals now that school is out.
