UTAH COUNTY, Utah -- A convoy of military history rolled through Utah Valley Saturday to mark the anniversary of D-Day.

More than 20 historic military vehicles traveled from Thanksgiving Point to Orem City Center Park and then back again.

The convoy had been scheduled for May 9, in recognition of the 70th anniversary of the allied victory in Europe, but rain forced a change of date. So the event was held Saturday, June 6, which is the 71st anniversary of the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France.

Event organizer Raymond Meldrum spoke about the vehicles featured in the convoy.

"These are all historic military vehicles,” he said. “We have a lot of World War II Jeeps here as well as some Dodge trucks and other vehicles that are kind of interesting, and they’re from all eras--but principally WWII.”

A press release states event organizers welcome and anticipated participation in the convoy from veterans and their families.

The convoy took a few hours to roll through Utah Valley, starting and ending at Thanksgiving Point. All of the historic vehicles in Saturday’s convoy are privately owned.
