SALT LAKE CITY — Governor Gary Herbert plans to sign an executive order mandating water conservation measures at state-run facilities.

The governor is expected to sign the order Wednesday afternoon, his office said, where he would unveil the depth of the measures being implemented. It would apply to state-owned and managed facilities, as well as all state agencies.

“The governor hopes the executive order will set an example, and Utahns will also adopt long-term water conservation practices,” the governor’s office said in a statement.

The order will follow a private meeting between the governor and an advisory team on the state’s water situation and an action plan by local water districts in response to the drought.
