SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities have identified the body of a man found near the Jordan River as 36-year-old Anthony Paul Hernandez.

A hiker found his body around 3:30 p.m. Monday in an area near 804 N. Riverside Dr.

Salt Lake City police said his body was found in an area between the river and a trail that runs along the river.

Det. Greg Wilking said the body had suffered some sort of trauma but did not elaborate on the injury.

Police received a report that someone may have heard a gunshot in the area but they couldn’t say when that gunshot may have occurred.

Officials are working to determine how the man died.

Rose Park is NOT the “Arm pit of Salt Lake”. I’ve lived there for over 10 years and have never had any problems whatsoever. I’ve never seen a crime or known anyone involved in a crime. I’ve seen some tagging but that happens everywhere. I’ve never had my car or my house broken into, and never had anyone (or even heard of anyone) snooping around properties or vehicles etc. Rose Park has its issues but so does every other part of the city.
