UTAH COUNTY – A man was taken to a hospital by medical helicopter Saturday after he lost control of the motorcycle we was riding and crashed, and authorities said the man’s helmet came off during the accident.

The crash occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Soldier Pass Road, about one mile west of State Route 68 (Redwood Road), according to a press release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

The 21-year-old man from Orem lost control on loose gravel, and though he was wearing a helmet it came off during the crash. The man was suffering severe back pain, and his friends drove him to SR-68, where they met Utah County deputies.

EMS personnel from Goshen and Saratoga Springs responded, and an Air Care medical helicopter was dispatched from Mountain View Hospital in Payson. The man was flown to that hospital, and officials said the man injured his back and broke multiple ribs. They said his injuries were not life threatening but that he would likely be in the hospital for some time.

Officials said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
