OGDEN, Utah -- It was three weeks ago that an Ogden teenager was shot and killed while walking home from a family gathering. Police have yet to make an arrest in the case, but the victim's family says they have reason to be optimistic; they say for the first time a witness has come forward.

It was around 1 a.m on May 3 that Francisco Lopez, 18, was killed in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Harrison Boulevard and Seventh Street. This past week, the victim's family said they received some important news from police. They say a woman has come forward who says she was inside the car where the shots were fired.

"So there were two girls in the car, one boy, and just out of random he stopped at the corner and started shooting," said Maria Lopez, Francisco's sister. "For her to come forward and say that she was in the incident and what was going on, and they were basically on drugs, they didn't know what they were doing, it did take a big step."

The Lopez family said they are optimistic that this witness will finally be the break in the case that they needed and that justice will be served.

"My brother never did anything to anybody, why did they do it? What was their intentions? If it was just something to do didn't they think about the family?" Lopez asked. "I'd really like to meet that person and ask them what was the point of this? You hurt a family."

Ogden Police could not confirm that a witness in this case has come forward.
