SALT LAKE CITY – Those who live within the boundaries of Salt Lake City can once again purchase a monthly pass to ride most UTA services at a significant discount, as the city is bringing back the Hive Pass following a successful pilot program.

According to a press release from Salt Lake City, the Hive Pass offers, “access to unlimited rides on UTA buses, TRAX light rail, and the S-Line streetcar.” The cost is $42 per month, and it also includes a $2.50 discount on one-way FrontRonner and Express bus trips.

“Our Hive Pass program has created a great new, and very affordable, way for residents to make public transit a regular part of getting around,” stated Mayor Ralph Becker in the press release. “Not only does it create new mobility options, but using the Hive Pass makes a great contribution to addressing our air quality challenges, reduces traffic and helps make our community an even better place to live, work and play.”

City officials stated last year’s pilot program was “highly successful”, which is why they brought the program, now dubbed “Hive Pass 2.0”, back. The offer reduces the cost of a UTA monthly adult pass by 50 percent. Last year, a Hive Pass cost $30 per month or $350 for the year.

Residents can purchase a pass for one month or for any  amount of consecutive months up to a full year, and purchasing a 12-month pass includes a further 10 percent discount. The pass activates on the first day of the month for which the pass is purchased, according to the press release.

Those who wish to purchase a Hive Pass may do so by visiting one of the locations listed below Monday through Friday (times vary by location).

The pass is only available to those who live inside Salt Lake City boundaries, and customers must, “bring a photo ID and two additional forms of eligibility documentation (proof of residence) to purchase a Hive Pass.” Click here for more information or to determine your eligibility for a Hive Pass.
