SALT LAKE CITY -- It's a strong market when it comes to summer jobs for America's teenagers, even while fewer of them are taking advantage of job opportunities.

The job placement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas has produced a summer job outlook for decades, and the trends they're seeing are strong.

The number of teens who already have jobs in March are at a record high, and 80 percent of employers said they will hire as many or more people this summer as they hired in 2014.

But Andy Challenger, Vice President of Challenger, Gray and Christmas, says if teens wait until the last day of school, they'll be disappointed.

"It's too late if you wait until after graduation happens or after the school year is finished," Challenger said. "Even though there are more opportunities in the workplace than there were in 2009, it's still competitive and you gotta get out there and start looking early."

Challenger spoke with FOX 13 News' Max Roth about the summer job outlook for teens, see the video above for Max's report and the video below for the full interview with Challenger.
