SALT LAKE CITY – Residential Questar Gas customers in Utah could see a decrease in their annual bill of about $30 starting this summer if a request from the service provider is approved.

According to a press release from Questar Gas, the company is requesting a $52.2 million decrease in its Utah natural gas rates, and if the Utah Public Service Commission approves the measure then, “the annual bill for the typical residential customer will decrease by $32 beginning June 1, 2015.”

Craig Wagstaff, president of Questar Gas, explained the move in the press release.

“Abundant natural gas supplies continue to reduce the price we pay for natural gas to serve our customers,” he said. “As a result, our rates continue to be among the lowest in the country.”

Wagstaff said gas prices can fluctuate with changes in supply and demand, and he said this request includes the company’s regular gas-cost adjustment filings to cover the cost of buying natural gas for its customers. Those costs are passed on to customers with no markup and have no impact Questar’s profits, according to the press release.

The press release also stated that there may be funds available to help income-eligible customers who are elderly or who have disabilities pay their gas bills. Customers can dial 211 for information about utility assistance programs.
