Witnesses lift SUV off 2-year-old girl trapped underneath in Orem crash

OREM, Utah — A 2-year-old child was trapped underneath an SUV after a two-car collision in Orem Tuesday afternoon.

An SUV was traveling on State Street around 500 North. The accident also involved a red passenger car. According to Lt. Craig Martinez with Orem police the SUV rolled in the crash trapping the toddler under the vehicle.

Martinez said the child somehow got out of the vehicle during the accident but it is unclear how at this point. Witnesses on scene ran to the SUV and lifted it off the girl.

Martinez said the toddler suffered some broken bones and cuts but no life-threatening injuries. Sh was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

One other person was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The accident has shut down a section of northbound State Street. Police have asked motorists to avoid the area. More information will be provided the crash will be provided as it becomes available.
