SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah County doctor convicted of killing his wife will not get his first parole hearing for decades.

In response to an inquiry from FOX 13, the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole said Dr. Martin MacNeill’s first parole hearing has been scheduled for August 2052. The decision to schedule his parole hearing out so long effectively amounts to a life sentence for MacNeill; he is 59 now and would be 96 at the time of his first appearance before the parole board.

MacNeill was sentenced to serve up to life in prison for the 2007 murder of his wife, Michele. Prosecutors said he drugged and drowned her so he could carry on an affair with another woman.
