SALT LAKE CITY -- An overnight snow storm made the roads wet and slushy for morning commuters, leading to several crashes and slide-offs.
Wednesday morning, the Utah Department of Transportation reported pockets of heavy snow, reduced visibilities and slick road conditions in the Salt Lake Valley, especially over bridges.
"Right now, our biggest problem is probably Parleys Canyon. There is restrictions to chains and four wheel drives up there and people aren't adhering to that so much," said Sgt. Todd Royce, Utah Highway Patrol.
UDOT requires vehicles traveling in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Little Cottonwood Canyon, Parleys Canyon and Spanish Fork Canyon to have four-wheel drive and tire chains.
UHP advises drivers to slow down and not to follow other vehicles too closely. UHP said from midnight until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday there were a total of 118 crashes in Salt Lake County, and in 16 of those crashes people were injured. In Utah County there were 22 crashes, two of which had injuries. None of the injuries in the crashes were serious.
